"How can I not?" she whispered hoarsely, feeling more of the tears beginning to trickle down.
She kept her head bowed in what seemed to be shame.
Cloud wasn't the only one who wanted redemption and forgiveness,
She wanted it too; and not from just one person. She wanted it from their band of friends. She wanted it from every one she had ever caused pain to because, at the end of the day, she could have saved Aerith.
And that one moment of hesitation to see just who's blade it was costed the healer her life.
"And then you died...Because I didn't stop you. I didn't go with you to help."
It was then that she looked up at him, eyes glossy and tears trickling down smoothly.
The last time he had seen her cry, and not from pain but from pure emotion, was when her father was murdered by Sephiroth back in Nibelheim.

She let out a harsh laugh as he repeated the words she had spoken only a mere moments ago.
"And what if there is no future..?" she whispered hoarsely, looking down once again.
What if this is the lifestream's punishment for me?

Clouds stare was blank as he released her. He didn't know.
He didn't know what to do if there was no future.
But, if there was no future, what would be the point of living?
He didn't know.

The moment he withdrew from her, she felt her body longing for his embrace once again because her heart was so damn persistent.
But she knew she couldn't tell him what she wanted to for so long.
It would jeoprodize whatever relationship, or friendship, they had.
And she couldn't go through losing him again.
Just the thought of that loneliness brought her to small weak sobs, her arms folding around her as if she was trying to console herself.
That pain of him just disappearing one day branded a fear on her heart.

Cloud was snapped from his daze by the sound of sobbing, reflextively, both well-toned arms wrapped around her and pulled her against his padded chest.

Tifa's sobbing hitched for a moment as she weakly brought her hands up, curling them around the fabric of his navy blue vest.
Her face buried into his firm chest to muffle her cries.

His usually half-hollow eyes curled around her, and he just held her and let her cry without saying two words. For one, his didn't know what to say. He knew nothing that could make her feel better at a time like this other than just to let her cry.

Slowly, her tears dried and she pulled away from him meekly, muttering a rasp apology to him as she carefully sat back down onto the pew.
Another thing about her heart being so persistent was that it loved to show it's emotions at unexpected times:
Just like it had right now.

This time, Cloud followed her. He took her hand and crouched beside the pew, stroking her cheek shyly.

She looked at him, the apples of her cheeks lighting up in a blush of embarassment, confusion, and shyness all tied up with that fluttery feeling in her stomach.
"C-Cloud?" she asked.
But she didn't mind the way his thumb stroked her cheekbone.
Her eyes fluttered shut for a moment as her hand leaned up and rested over his, her cheek leaning into his touch.

Tifa peeled her eyes open and gazed into his Mako blue orbs with her crimson ones.
She felt a lump gather in her throat, hearing her heart race in her ears and she was damn near sure he could hear it too.

He tried to swallow, his breathing uneven as he stared down at her, unable to will himself to speak.

Cloud sighed softly in defeat as he looked at the ground, unable to speak. He soon looked up again and, after a quick collection of courage, he pressed his lips to hers tenderly.

With a quick intake of breath, Tifa's eyes widened, her hand tightening around his on impulse.
But slowly, her frenzied nerves began to calm down as her eyes fluttered shut and she leaned into the kiss gently.
Her heart fluttered in her chest, this feeling of acceptance and relief filling her being.

Tifa slowly and gently broke the kiss, peeling her eyes open to gaze into his.

He tried to clear his throat and speak, but still he could find know words.
How was he supposed to tell her how he felt if he couldn't manage to get his voice to work?

She slowly removed her hand from his before resting it on his cheek tentively.
Tifa understood that sometimes it was hard for Cloud to communicate; she knew him so well that sometimes he didn't have to.
And this was one of those times.
