Keith-

I smiled, "I realized that long ago. Thanks for the reminder though." I lauged a little. It was quite obvious I was stubborn, and I was not going to deny it.

I went to the door and held it open for her. "After you."

I watch his face for a moment, his smile crooked and easy, but his eyes deep and sad, holding within them countless memories that I'd never understand.

I snap back to reality as he holds the door open for me, so I button up my jacket as I'm blasted by a cold gust of wind.

[Charlie]

Keith-

I followed her out, and began heading for Damian's small shoe shine stand. It was nothing more than a chair, when we got their. His stuff was hidden somewhere, and he was no where to be seen.

I could not believe he was probably sleeping somewhere near by. It wasn't a bad part of New York, but it wasn't good either. And the ally ways no matter where they are, are horrible.

I sighed, it was another promise I broke. I promised me mammy that I would never let him on the streets again. Well living on the streets again, starving. And now he was doing exactly that.

I sigh softly when I see the lone chair, turned over on it's side from the wind. I knew without him having to tell me that this was his life- on the streets, even in this cold.

I glance at Keith, and think to myself that under the word "tense" in the dictionary, there would be a picture of him.

"Let's try the pub," I suggest.

[Charlie]

Keith-

I smiled, "My thoughts exactly." We started walking to the pub. "I hope the lad's alright." I muttered. As we came to the front door. I opened it for her, having the smell of beer hit my nose.

The warm air came out like a wind, the music once muffled by the door, now blasted in my ears. It was almost as good as being home. "Ello Tom." I greeted, "Damo, been by."

Tom nodded and pointed to a booth, where Damian and a girl were sitting.

I wince as the blast of beer assaults my nostrils- the pungent odor wafted through the small space, masked every other smell. It was only high noon, for goodness sakes.

I follow him to the booth near the back where apparently Damian and another lass were seated, talking in hushed voices.

I purse my lips, as if to keep words from spilling out of my mouth unexpectedly.

[Charlie]

(i'm gonna go into third while keith and damian are together in the same room.)

Keith silently walked up, and asked, "Damo?"

Damian immediatly stopped what he was saying and turned around. He recognized Keith's voice. His eyes ice cold, and angry. They seemed to burn. "What the hell do ya want?" He asked so coldly the temperature in the room seemed to drop.

"To say I'm sorry." Keith said.

Damian didn't answer for a bit, so many emotions played on his face. He had a young face, a baby face. It was readable.

The music seemed to stop, for both Keith and Damian, who were staring eachother down, one of sorrow and one of anger, their was silence.

I felt like the pathetic mouse, amongst the bigger and scarier hawks, staring each other down with challenging eyes. I swallow, wringing my hands nervously as I look down at my shoes.

Please, please don't fight. I internally beg. I didn't know why I followed Keith here, but I was beginning to regret it.

[Charlie]

Damian finally spoke, "You crossed a line, you think I can ever trust you again."

"I know I crossed a line, and I know how hard it is to gain your trust back. I dont expect us to be as close as we were, but I want us to at least be mates again."

Keith was being calm and rational, as was Damian, but he was a bit more tense than Keith. "I don't know Keith." Damian said skeptically.

"Damian I broke a promise. I crossed a lot of lines that day. I was drunk. I regret it. But letting you sleep on the streets, is breaking another promise."

Damian looked back at the girl he was with, breaking his staring contest with Keith.

Keith turned to Cass, "I tried." He said in a hushed tone.

"It's okay." I whisper, gently touching his arm as I offer a small smile. My mind was on overdrive, but seeing Keith's sad eyes slowed it all down. The boy...Damien...his utter nonchalance after the conversation irked me, but as usual I said nothing on the matter.

[Charlie]

Damian was so hard headed and stubborn. He put his hands up on the table, and set his head in them, and just shook his head no. He was mauling things over in his mind.

"Let's go." Keith said, sadness just pooring out of his voice.

"Keith, wait." Damian said standing up. Keith totally forgot Damian was almost as tall as him now. They were both around six foot five.

Damian's childish face, read of sorrow. Keith turned around. "Yeah."

"I'm sorry, you know I can be stubborn. But, it will take a wile for me to be able to trust you again. Ya know." Damian said.

Keith smiled, "As long as we're mates again."

Damian went up, and hugged Keith.

As the two hugged, Keith felt how skinny Damian was. It was getting worse. He still had muscle, and color in his skin. But he was skinnier than normal for him.

He looked at the girl. "Sorry, I haven't introduced meself. I'm Damian." Damian held out his hand after he stopped hugging Keith.

"Cassanova." I introduce myself quietly, my eyes flitting between the two boys warily. I was still nervous about some fight breaking out, despite the hug. Trust issues have always been my fatal flaw, as ma used to tell me.

Carissa: I watched this all with extreme curiosity. "Hi," I butted in cheerfully, making an awkward break in the tension, "I'm Carissa!"

[Charlie]

Damian held out his hand. "Pleased to meet ya." Damian smiled, it was contagious. He didn't have a reason to but he did.

Keith held out his hand to Carissa. "I'm Keith." He said nervously. He was unsure of how close she and Damian were. He wondered what he had told her about him.

His smile was cute, in that boyish sort of way. I realized how different him and Keith were, but so close at the same time.

I grasped his hand, rough and calloused against my own. "Me as well." I respond politely, noticing the way his ribs were visible beneath his muscle tee shirt. Realizing I've been staring, I return my eyes to his and take a small step back.

[Charlie]

Damian noticed she stepped back, "I don't bite." he laughed. His eyes glowed, as he realized he was in the company of friends.

He did wonder however why she had been stairing at his ribs, they were not as bad as they could be.

I smile a little at the way his eyes lit up when he laughed. It wasn't a forced kind of laugh- no, it was the kind of laugh that traveled all the way to his eyes. It was nice to watch- I couldn't laugh like that anymore.

"Perhaps not," I agree, nodding as I allow a small smile.

[Charlie]

Damian giggled at her joke. He didn't even take bites of food that reguarly. Damian became quite awkward not knowing what to say. He then asked something that shocked even him, "So, what has Keith told ya about me?"

"Oh, you know..." I muse, my eyes flickering with amusement as I look up at him with a lopsided grin. "The usual." I say vaguely, raking a hand through my dark hair. "Why do you ask?"

[Charlie]

Damian shyed back, he knew exactly what Keith had said. He almost broke the promise again, "Just wondering." Damian added silently, "If he really is sorry." He scractched his head.

Damian chuckled to himself as he said, "I'm sure he gloated about saving me life. Right?"

"He was..." I pause, wondering how to finish the sentence. "Vague. About what happened." I swallow, recapping his earlier words. How he picked him up off the street, came on the same boat...then it ended there.

I avoid looking at him directly by keeping my chin pointed down, glancing at him through my lashes.

[Charlie]

Damian mulled it over in his mind, hcould tell her that much. "I can give you a bit more detail than he did." He paused, "If your willing to listen."

Damian was generally a nice person, just found it hard to trust people, he had been betrayed so often.

I nod, motioning to the now vacant booth that Damian and Carissa once occupied. "Would you like to sit?" I ask softly, cocking my head just a tad. I was eager to hear the story, but apprehensive about my feelings toward both Keith and Damien after it was all said.

[Charlie]

Damian let her sit first, then sat himself. He took a sip of the Guinness which he enjoyed when he could afford it. The pleasure in the drink became evident on his face.

"Well it started when my parents were murdered."

My eyes widen a fraction, lips parted just slightly at his words. I purse them again, saving my words until he finishes. I watch his face brighten with the sip of his Guinness, but couldn't understand why.

[Charlie]

"I'm an only child with no relatives alive, we were a very poor family. When my parents were murdered I was eight. I stopped counting my age after it didn't seem to matter. I was alone, and left to fend for myself. Obviously I couldn't stay in the house, so went to the streets. I begged for food, but it was hard times for everyone so I rarely got it." Damian looked down. It reminded him of his current situation.

"It had been years, since my parents died, and at least six months since my last meal. It was raining abnormally hard. I had passed out, hoping to be dead, I mean I had nothing to live for. Keith came walking by and picked me up, and took me into his home." He decided it would be best to skip a majority of what happened.

"After I had gotten somewhat better, it had been a few years I would think. We went to the docks and came here hoping for something." Damian giggled. No full well it was no joke, "I definately got something, No money." He stopped laughing, when he reaized it wasn't funny.

He was leaning forward, and sat back when he finished, waiting to hear what she had to say. He took another sip of Guinness it slowly relieved all the rees that happened in his life.
