Davina grinned, " Seems we have more in common than I thought." was all she said but the truth was the was number four on that list for her year. And climbing. She was just a mage but she was one hell of a mage, her mother trained her well in combat too so she wasn't just good with runes. She could kick some serious ass when needed. " Though I'm no guard."

Re: Mage: Academy
Another near-snicker escaped Kunai. "That last part is normally the major turn-off when it comes to friend making," he stated. This was the honest truth, the only person who got remotely close to him was another guard, and he pretty much assumed that's just because they were partners. Oh yeah... Kunai remembered that his partner was in the shoppe they were heading to, waiting for him, he had to return to that happy act his partner had grown used to.
((Problem solved OTD, lol it's not particularly the way I wanted their friendship to work, but we came like 3 posts too late to change that lol))

" I'm a pompous ass on my own, it makes you that way when you know you have to hold yourself back from incapacitating people due to their stupidity." Davina said with a curt blink.

"And everyone is on a lower level then you?" He inquired to her, opening the door to the shoppe and holding it for her.

"Hmpf," He retorted. Oddly enough, he was the 4th in his class as well, and his job as a guard was just to get him more respect to go up the other 3 ranks. In his year of study, contribution to the community was much larger then any other year, and it intilled most of the grade for the year as well. "Oddly enough, I can say the same thing. I just don't."

" No one likes me anyways." Davina said bluntly, and it was true. She had not met one person who liked her enough to call her their friend. She hadn't been so rude to people before arriving at COMM she just was quiet and reserved not talkative and boastful.

He remained silent simply eying her. He extended an arm as to welcome her towards the shoppe's interiors.

Re: Mage: Academy
(I'm not really sure how to start this, so...)
The dull and constant thud of an impatient foot tapping on hard wooden floorboards echoed around the tiny shoppe. Leaning against the shoppe counter, arms crossed like an irritated school teacher, Derren's icy cold stare stayed pinned onto the two walking through the creaky little door. He had had his eyes pinned on that front door for what seemed like hours, waiting for his partner to turn up. Though normally he had a tendency to be a few minutes late on average, he had grown used to that. But an hour? Kunai had some serious explaining to do.
"And where have you been? We agreed to meet here at midnight."
He had to try hard not to speak through gritted teeth. Despite his lateness, he knew that his partner was going through a little bit of a rough time with the influx of COMM invitations, facing that moral dilemma between fame and what was right for him.
Derren just gave in to it. It was easier that way.
But as he slipped off of the counter, walking forward towards the duo, he sighed, then stopped a little bit in front of him.
Though it was true that Kunai was older than him, though only by a couple of months, it was often Derren who acted the mature one. Anyway, most people were scared of him so he had to. He was literally perfect for guard duty as no-one wanted to mess with him.
"Davina," he muttered with half an attempt of a smile, giving a nod to the girl who his partner had caught walking around.
Yes, he knew her. They were in the academy, weren't they? That didn't mean that they talked, however. She seemed a lot happier being accompanied by her twin swords rather than friends.
Not that that mattered to him.
But then he turned back to his partner and frowned again, "Talk."

"About what?" Kunai replied, a mark of distaste in his voice. "Why I was late? Ran into some trouble," He pointed to Davina, "You know our laws I had to get her to comply and come here." He barked in reply.

Re: Mage: Academy
Derren's eyebrows furrowed further. His voice was a bit loud for this time of night.
"She wouldn't take up an hour of your time. She knows the rules better than you do. The clocktower's a less an ten minute walk here."
Perhaps he was being a little unfair, but some kind of communication would have been helpful. For all he knew he could have fallen down from the top of his clocktower and cracked his head open... Not that Kunai would ever be that careless.

Re: Mage: Academy
"And how would you know what she does and doesn't know?" He retorted, now further annoyed. But before he allowed it to go any further he quickly got in a breath and slowed, "Her and I had a bit of a run into eachother," He began his explanation. "She didn't think I was a legitimate guard so it took a little longer then normal, okay? Can we continue and process her ID so she can get on her way dad?" His request had returned to the same annoyed tone, but he was not 'as' annoyed.

Re: Mage: Academy
Not many people do think you're a legitimate guard, Kunai...
Derren sighed to himself. Perhaps he had been a little out of order with his comments. He was right. It was usually the small ones that gave you the most trouble.
"Sorry," he sighed, eyes refusing to meet his, "Come on."
Running his hand back through the mop of curls on his head, he began to walk into the storeroom of the shoppe.
For quite a small shoppe there was rather a lot of stock, and in the corner of it was a machine that they both knew rather well.
"I'll let you do the honours," he mumbled, gesturing towards the machine, "seeing as you're the one who stumbled across her."
Walking next to the machine, Derren leaned against the wall next to it, watching Kunai with a raised brow upon his head. He couldn't get why he was being so...snappy. Normally he would have just made a joke about it...
Perhaps the COMM thing was really getting to him.

Re: Mage: Academy
Kunai placed her ID on a table and took out a rune with the same markings that appeared on their badges. He placed it on the ID, and then slammed his fist against the rune atop the ID, both vanishing at impact. "What would you do?" He turned to Derren, "Would you throw your life away for the fame of being a member of the COMM council?"

Re: Mage: Academy
So, he was right. It was the COMM thing.
Giving a sigh, Derren mulled over his conundrum, weighing up the pros and cons in his mind. He hadn't really thought about it. He never thought that he would be given the opportunity. Hell, he didn't think that Kunai would, either. Sure, his work with his runes was outstanding, but...
It was Kunai.
"Personally... Yeah, I would. You know why I came here in the first place..."
Simply: fame meant money. Money that he could send home to his family. Money that could really help them.
The edges of Derren's icy exterior seemed to melt slightly, memories of his brothers and sisters which he left behind running through his mind. It didn't take him long to shake that off, however.
"But you're not me so there's really no point in asking what I would do. I have different motivations than you."
Getting off from his perch on the wall, he approached his partner again and firmly took a hold of his shoulder, squeezing it slightly.
"Look, Kunai, you need to do what's best for you. In the long and short term. Is COMM just going to get bored sending you letters and eventually give up? Unlikely. They get what they want..." he murmured, eyes searching the floor, "and at the moment, they want you... Maybe I'm wrong, though."
He ended his speech with a slight shrug of his shoulders as he let go of his. He hoped he was wrong. He didn't want to do guard duty by himself, or worse, with another person. He had just started to grow fond of the guy, not that he would tell him that outright.

Davina just stood still, she wasn't afraid or ticked of or even angry, she just simply wanted to listen and watch. This Kunai guy had gotten under her well built and structured walls only due to her lack of sleep and now she was learning as much as she could about him, in case she needed to use that for later. She was the type of person to do this, even if she didn't want to do it didn't mean she had any choice. Honestly she simply did it out of instinct, an instinct her mother had taught her to never let down. Ever.

Re: Mage: Academy
Sighing, Kunai considered what was just said for a minute, "I know they want me. Their letters have begun to offer things to me in return for taking it." Kunai lived with different circumstances, his family was well off, and didn't need his support. "But what is best for me? I've already learned all these academies can teach me..." Now realizing they were being monitored, Kunai turned to the girl he had escorted into the building. "Let's hear your opinion, Ms. 4th in her class. You hold the exact same rank as me in my year, so what would you do if the COMM council offered you the opportunity to join their ranks."

Re: Mage: Academy
Davina blinked, not showing any surprise by being asked a question despite the fact she was, " Honestly I would take it, my mothe-" she cut herself off, " I'm about power and the more power I have the safer I am. I'm not a very friendly or open person but I am powerful. If I pass the test I'm working on I will move up to second rank in my class. No one has passed this test before, I plan on being the first. Hence the power part of my mind. The safer I am the more powerful I need to be. No friends to hurt me or betray me, no family, not anymore, no one. " She said bluntly no emotion seeping into her voice to betray her lack of ability to have anyone to look out for her so she just had to do it herself.
Her mother had died fighting, died a warriors death in Davina's opinion but a traitor to other people's. She never allowed herself to associate herself with her mother after her death, just to remember the skills the woman taught her. To fight and live, power means protection, protections means you have power.

Making fast note of her cutting herself off, Kunai squinted listening to her. "So you want to be a princess then?" He commented on her want for power.

Popping his head around the door, Derren raised a brow as Davina went on. To be honest, he never really heard her speak, and to hear her say that she was planning to complete a test...
She couldn't have been talking about that, right?
"Good luck with that," he muttered, sarcasm laced with his voice.
But it was interesting. It was interesting to hear her motivation -- they had similarities.
