{Oh crap lol. I was having writer's block, so I left this chat for a bit, and totally forgot it :X}

I swing open the door to the cocktail bar, holding it open for him. Common courtesy was what I grew up around. Chewing with our mouth open, or put our elbows on the table it was considered as an offense. My brother had a hard time learning that when he was...before he...

Suddenly I exhale loudly, pushing the thought out of my mind before I could let it get to me.

[Charlie]

Keith-

I walk through, and hold the door for. I held it open for her, as she walked through. I was more used to a pub feel, but this was okay.

Carissa: I shook my head. "Oh, my, you've been through alot..." I couldn't even imagine how much he'd experienced.

[Charlie]

Damian-

"I guess." I looked at the table. I had never really thought about the amount of stuff I had gone through. It was alot. "But every person is different." I smiled at her.

Carissa; "Yes, I suppose. I'm struggling with the Women's RIghts Movement right now. I guess that's sometthing you men cannot understand." I glared at him, I put my elbows on the table and put my head on my balled up fists.

[Charlie]

Damian-

That was true. I knew nothing of politics well I did when I first came over, and read through the papers so I could sell them. "At least you have a movement for your rights." I said, not meaning to sound rude. But we Irish had nothing.

Carissa: "Why don't you shut it! You are a man! You can vote! If you weren't Irish you could be respected! But I am I woman! And I am nothing at this moment!" I glared at him. I didn't care if I was making a scene with the raised voice, my Polish accent shining through, I didn't care if I was being rude! He had hit a touchy subject...and I didn't appreciate his attitude.

Damian-

"Actually I can't vote." She thought because I was male, I had everything no. "I'm Irish remember. We don't get the rights you Americans have, male or female." I yelled, as I did I was tapped on the shoulder, and told to leave. "See what I mean." As I was roughly escorted out the door. The pub was a few doors down, I needed a drink.

"Tell me about yourself," I ask quietly when we take a seat at the bar, motioning for the waitress. At this hour, only a handful of people mingled amongst some of the booths, leaning towards each other and talking in hushed voices.

I glance at him, brushing a piece of my dark hair out of my eyes.

[Charlie]

Keith-

I ordered a beer, a Guinness to be exact. Hoping they would have the black stuff. "Let's see, grew up in the North or Ireland. Raised by me mammy. I have a wee sis. I was walking home from..." I paused, "Uh, work, and I came across this tiny kid in the street he had to be at least fourteen although he looked alot younger and smaller than that.

"The wee lad, was starving to death. I'm talking no muscle, no fat, just skin and bones, I could see how white his bones were." I paused, I thought that this was not my story to tell. I thought about Damian's trust. I was betraying him again, and I wasn't even drunk this time. "Well, I couldn't just leave the kid their, so I scooped him up, and took him to my home.

"Me ma nursed him back to health, he turned out a nice young lad. Used to be me best mate." I paused and took a sip of the beer that had been handed to me. "Long story short, he saved me sis, getting himself shot, and then the two of us traveled over here. We were both Newsies to start out with, now he shines shoes, and I have to eat the papes I don't sell."

I finished, no need to tell her how I made my extra money. "What about you?"

I listen to his story, my brows knitting together at some parts, but most of the time I kept my face blank, trying to swallow it whole.

"Used to be, eh?" I ask, not wanting to pry but confused at his strange statement. If he didn't want to talk more on the subject, I'd just have to let it go. Shaking my head a little, I begin.

"I grew up in Dublin, on me parent's potato farm. We did well, for a couple a youngins like me n my brother. Made a fine living...until the famine." This part was harder to talk about, but I push on.

"We were starvin away- mum looked real bad for a good lot of the time. So skinny, she was. Passed on when she was only 32." I send up a quick, silent hail mary for her, then continue. "So me brother felt s'if he had to take ov'r the farm- dad drove 'imself into depression f'ter she left. So un day he was workin un the farm n..." I swallow, looking down at the grainy surface of the bar. "Had n accident with the tractor. Dad shipped me to live with me aunt here, in New York. Said he couldn't take care 'f me."

Finishing with a deep sigh, I look over to see our drinks have arrived.

[Charlie]

Keith-

"Sorry to here that." Why did it seem like everyone I met had tough lives. I had it fairly easy.

I took a sip of my beer. I decided to answer he question then. "I betrayed his trust. To be honest I was drunk, and talking through a spout of drunkenness." I looked down at the pint. "I broke a promise. I almost broke it again." I said. I was ashamed.

My blonde hair fell in my face, as I held back a few tears. I took another sip.

I shrug at his sympathy, then look back at his eyes when he tells me about his earlier comment.

"Are you still..." I scratch the back of my neck awkwardly, looking down again. "Still...that way? With the drinking?" I ask, for some reason wanting to know more. But I'd crossed the line; his drinking was none of my business. "Sorry. Disregard that last comment." I shake my head, taking a sip of beer to prevent my mouth from spewing any more shenanigans.

[Charlie]

Keith-

"Not as much." I said, answering the question. "I did more than just break a promise, I crossed a few lines as well."

I sighed, "I'm Irish, I like a good drink. And when you're drunk," I paused not meaning her you're but a general you're. "Girls become exceptionally beautiful, and you always say things you don't mean."

I took another breath, "I barely remember it, but it hurt him, both physically and emotionally." I took another drink. "I'm a horrible person. I'm surprised you're still talking to me, to be honest."

"No, you're not." I say truthfully and sincerely, meeting his eyes. "It was just a mistake, right?" I lower my voice, talking softly now. "People make mistakes, Keith." I spoke with assurance, though I was sure his problem was probably a lot deeper than he was letting on.

I take another small sip of my drink.

[Charlie]

Keith-

I sighed, "I guess you're right. I wish he would forgive me. One mistake, and I loose me best mate, the guy who saved me sis, and I saved him." I held up my pointer finger, and whispered, "One mistake." I just let my hand fall, like I was to tired to keep it up. I took another drink, pushing my longish hair out of my face.

I frown, not knowing what to say. Sometimes, people didn't need words of comfort. Sometimes, all they want is someone to sit next to in an empty bar at 11:00 in the morning. So I remained silent, watching as he lifts the drink to his lips and takes a large sip.

[Charlie]

Keith-

I breathed out as the Guinness finished going down my throat and smiled. "Thanks." I merely said.
