I was nearing my last customer of the day, so the sack was much lighter now. I was able to carry it without restraint, but he still followed me on the rest of the route. Periodically, I would inconspicuously check if my belongings were still there.

Keith-

She was acted as if she was annoyed or paranoid with my presence. I sold one last paper, and then began to turn the opposite direction to head back to the lodging house.

Wordlessly, he left after selling the last paper, just as I was handing over the last customer's laundry.

"Hey, wait." I blurted, keeping my ground as I called out to the young man. "I never caught your name." I hadn't meant to come off as rude- I hope he didn't think so. "It's just...I have this trust problem..."

Keith-

I turned around, "Its Keith!" I called out. I walked back up to her, stuffing my hands in my pockets. "I understand." He said. Damian didn't trust him anymore, and Damian had more trust problems than anyone he knew.

Biting my lip, I was grateful to be given another chance. "Can we...start over?" I asked glancing up at him from the corner of my eye. Extending my arm towards him, my voice was soft when I spoke. "Lovely meeting you, Keith. I'm Cass."

[Charlie]

Keith-

I raised an eyebrow. I grabbed her hand. "Nice to meet you to, but I was unaware we needed to start over." I smiled.

Carissa: I didn't believe him. "Here, I didn't pay you this morning. Maybe that was what kept me from concentrating at work. I felt guilty." I laughed with a weak smile. I dug in my purse until I found my wallet. I pulled out some money and pushed it in his face. "Buy yourself something to eat."

[Charlie]

Damian-

I pushed the money away. "I said it was free." I couldn't take the money. And knowing she wanted me to eat with. I would end up buying a drink instead. I could handle going without food. "I don't need food." I reassured her. It probably wouldn't work. But I couldn't just tell a girl I barely knew, that the more often I ate, and the more I ate, I would get sick.

Carissa: I stomped my foot and rolled my eyes. "Take the dang money! I don't care if you want to go get drunk on it, it's apparently what you Irishmen do in this day and age! At least it will give me some peace of mind!" I started to stare him down and pushed the money toward him.

[Charlie]

Damian-

"I wont take your money." I said. I was greatly offended by the Irish getting drunk comment. "First off, I rarely drink, and when I do it's one pint of the black stuff. Secondly not all Irishmen drink till they die." I stood up, my blue eyes filled with fury. I was not going to tell her why I really didn't want her money to go eat, but she was pushing it. I would possibly eat if she took me, that could be her payment. But we will see where this little argument goes.

His hand covered my small one completely. It was warm, I could feel callouses along his palm. I didn't need to ask about them- everyone knew if you wanted to make a decent living in this rough New York, you had to work hard.

"I s'pose not," I agreed to his statement, nodding slightly.

Carissa: "Okay," I sighed, trying to calm myself, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that. If you don't want the stupid money, fine." I rolled my eyes up to the sky then back to him. I realized how tall he was standing and I was glad I backed out of the argument, not that he would hit me, I was a lady for Pete's sake! But he was intimidating.

Damian-

"No you're fine." I said, "It's just I couldn't take te money from you." I said softening up. I think I scared her when I stood. My stomach rumbled quite loudly, it was one of those that hurt. Normally I just ignored it, and I was going to this time.

[Charlie]

Keith-

"So..." I said attempting to fill the awkward gap. I failed. I realized my hands where huge in comparrison to hers. Of course I was huge in comparrison to her, I was practically a giant.

Carissa: I sighed and grabbed his wrist, for I don't know what reason I did that, I begged, "What can I do? Anything?"

[Charlie]

Damian-

I was taken back, "I don't know." I said. No one had ever offered to help me before. I was not used to this kind of kindness. Was it all fake, my trust issues were coming on in full swing.

Carissa: I waited expectantly for an answer. This person was like breaking through a shell to talk to him, maybe a name would help. "By the way, I'm Carissa." I let go of his wrist.

[Charlie]

Damian-

I faintly smiled, "Damian." I replied. Another painful stomach rumble, I just ignored it. But it was hard it was quite loud.

Carissa: I smiled back brightly. "It's lunch time... I'm going to get something to eat for myself. If you don't want to come, fine, but if you want to come that would be great, I could use the company."

Damian-

I weighed my options wait another week for food or go with her. "I'll come." I said. I hope she wouldn't think I was weird. The little I ate, and the rate I shoveled it in.
