Saffron followed behind Afterlife, talking animatedly with Night. "More like my great-grandfather," she said, with a laugh. Then she dramatically said, "But I have inherited his flair for the mysterious, his penchant for illusion, his brilliancy at escape."

(In all actuality, Harry Houdini is not her great-grandfather. All I'll say for now is: He's a bit more of a closer relation.)

Saffron cocked an eyebrow at Night. "I dunno," she said, "Maybe you saw my dad. It's his side that's Houdini. For all I know, he's Harry Houdini Jr." She shrugged. She'd never seen her dad before, and didn't care to. Her mom had never talked about him much.

Amelia Houdini still seemed to love Saffron's father very much. So much that it made her sad to talk about him. This made Saffron wonder why on Earth they had split up.

Saffron's father was a extrememly powerful Mirroring and her mother was an extremely minor Mirroring. Since their families didn't approve of their love, they were forced to run into hiding. When Saffron was born, they realised that they couldn't hide anymore. They went their separate ways, promising to be together again as soon as they possibly could.

Saffron was still a baby, and went with her mother. She has never seen her father and does not know who he is.)

Saffron stepped in front of the mirror. In it, she saw a girl with a devilish face, arching eyebrows, and curly, red, fly-away hair. The very image of one Harry Houdini. If, of course, he had been female.

"Trick mirror," she said dismissively. She used things like that all the time to make customers think they were seeing what they would be when they grew older or things like that. She felt the mirror over for signs of the things like the tricks she used. There was nothing. It was just a regular mirror. "Too weird," she murmured.
