Jacko: My fists were clenched. "I'm not going to start a fight. I'm going to get Lorenna back," I growled. I was shaking now.
I looked over at Keith. "He'll want to trade her for money and/or information."

Jacko: I clapped Keith on the shoulder. "So am I," I said with a dry laugh. "But maybe you should come, Jon." I left before he could reply.

I roll my eyes at the two but follow a little ways back. I didn't want Tanner to think I was coming on Jacko's side. That was the last thing I needed.

Jacko: I hurried through the crowd. Finally we reached the door to Tanner's house. I didn't bother knocking. I walked right in. The maid on duty jumped to her feet. "Sirs!" she protested as I went up the stairs.
I ignored her urgent calls. The door ahead of us led to Tanner's room. He would be there; he almost always was.
I flung the doors open. Tanner looked up and smiled. "You came."

Jacko: "Where is she?" I demanded. Tanner gestured to a door.
"She's resting," he said. "She's had a trying day."

Lorenna: I heard voices outside. I got to my feet and limped to the door. They heavy oak and I had to lean against them to open them. The vanity of the rich knows no bounds.
I stumbled into the sitting room and stared around me. Tanner, Jon, Keith, Jacko stared back at me.
I gulped.

I let out an amused chuckle under my breath. This was an interesting night. I know Lorenna wasn't leaving here very easily. Not if Tanner had a say in it.

Lorenna: My leg was too sore to hold be up so I flopped into the armchair. Tanner looked at Keith.
"I found her while escaping for the guards," he explained. "She was injured due to a fall. I brought her here." He looked at Jacko and smiled. "She's still not safe."
I looked up at Jacko. Tanner was right; I wasn't safe, not yet. And I wouldn't be unless I returned to the inn.
"We'll have to find a way to bring her back without notice." Jacko took a step towards me, but Tanner stood up swiftly.
"Tell me about the crown jewel heist," he said.

Lorenna: "Look, Jacko," Tanner said. "All I want is twenty percent of what you steal from the palace. For saving Lorenna from incarceration." Tanner smiled down at me like he had done me a favor.
Which he had.
Jacko looked at Keith, wanting his opinion.

Lorenna: I cast a nervous look between Jacko and Keith. "What else?" Jacko asked, looking back at Tanner. Tanner raised his hands.
"That's all I want," he said. Jacko looked at me. I gave a dramatic shrug. Jacko looked back at Keith. It was a silent exchange that anyone who knew Jacko knew well.

Lorenna: Jacko turned back to Tanner. "Done," he said. Tanner smiled and held out his hand. The pair shook on it. It was a pivotal moment in the two factions' histories. Those two never made contact. Or agreed on anything for that matter.
I got slowly to my feet, half afraid that Tanner would try to stop me. When he didn't, I limped to Jacko's side.
"Good luck getting her back to the inn," Tanner said, sitting back down. Jacko looked down at me. Leon would know I hadn't reached the inn yet and still have his men patrolling for me.

Lorenna: I wrapped the coat around me. Jacko pulled the hood up over my face. He wrapped an arm around my shoulder and hustled me out.

I give a friendly grin to Tanner once the others have left. "I'm surprised you just let her go." My voice is even with just a hint of amusement, maybe I'd underestimated the two.
