Middle of it.

I stood in a small group of women, chatting about politics while others were still making their way to the food and other couples. I hated being single but at the same time, I didn't really need a man with me. I've been in my position for years and I've done well.

Anne Rainsford:

I walked into the party late- one of my contacts had kept me preoccupied for longer than I had intended.
Dressed in a black and silver dress of the current fashion, I mingled with the guests, moving much and saying little. My dark hair was pulled up with ringlets to frame my face, and if it were not for my eyes I would have fit in quite well.
I didn't plan to stay very long- I would give the Duke my regards and leave as soon as permitted, but I could not seem to find the man.

Amelia:

I smiled and nodded to each of the guests as I was ignored, dressed in my black pinifore. (Spelling?) The guests took drinks from the tray in my hand as I walked past.

Brendan:

I laughed with the other guests, making my own jokes and trying to get others to laugh with me.

Marjorie:
I wandered from group to group, mingling as less as possible, but still gaining information. Gossip was interesting if you participate in it or not. I wandered to a smaller group where one young man was laughing at his own jokes while others tried to laugh. From the reactions of the man, I was guessing he was powerful enough to force people to laugh.

He looked like the Duke in several ways, but I wasn't sure. It was best to stay quiet and just listen for anything good, but then the musicians began to play and several couples gathered on the dance floor while others moved to make room.

Watching couples dance was nice, but it never really fancied my tastes at all. Last thing I needed was someone to ask me to dance. I knew I couldn't say no for it'd shame my family's name. Another thing I wanted to avoid.

Anne:

Finally, I spotted the Dukes son. I approached quitetly, "Good evening, Brendan. Where is your father?" I tire quickly of these parties but I could not leave without greeting the host. It wouldn't be polite.

Brendan: Taking a drink from the maid's tray, I replied. "Do you expect me to know? I expect the old boy's looking for his sanity!" I let out a guffaw of laughter again.

Anne:

I stepped back, forcing a smile, "Uh-huh. Please excuse me,"

Marjorie:
I kept quiet and a safe distance from the dancers, but that only pushed me closer to the Duke's son. When I bumped into him, I merely smiled. "Oh, my apologies, Mister Brendan."

Brendan: "That is certainly forgivable Miss Marjorie." I smiled at her.

Amelia: "Would you like a drink, ma'am?" I offered. Filthy scumbag...

Anne:

"No thank you," I muttered to the maid offering me drinks.

Marjorie:
I blushed a bit at his charming smile and looked to the servant. I took the drink of her tray and took a sip. Mm...White Zinfadel from Italy. "You have interesting tastes to have ordered this all the way from Italy."

Clara: I scurried into the kitchen and grabbed a plate of orderves and wandered out into the party. I was completely vexed with the cook, he had forgotten the mistress's favorite dish. I would have to be the one to tell her though, not a great moment for me. I frowned.

Amelia: I felt like stepping on the Duchess of whereever's foot. I was the one that chose that! I felt like screaming at her, but instead, I just smiled.

Brendan: "Of course, only the finest tastes for our guests. I picked it out myself, you know." I gave her another small smile.

Marjorie:
I nodded, looking at the Zinfadel. "You have exquisite tastes then, but those Italian merchants are greedy nowadays, don't you think so?"

Brendan: "Oh, it was only 50 euros for a bottle." I shrugged, bragging as well as blagging.

Amelia: Oh, so you want me to stamp on your foot too? It was 12 euros you idiot! he wouldn't even know. He doesn't even know the difference between a pufferfish and a pirahna. Which is why the fish were all eaten last spring.

Marjorie:
I nodded, looking impressed. 50 euros weren't much actually. I've had wine from 1699 that was 200 euros. "That's somewhat expensive...in a common man's perspective of course."
