She sat on her knees beside him and pulled him close, holding him. She didn't speak.

"Shh..," she hushed, stroking his hair. "It's okay...It's okay..," she comforted. "I'm okay...See?" She took his hand and placed it on her chest. Her heartbeat thudded against his palm. "I'm alive. My heart's beating, Riku."
She tilted his face up so he could see her. "We'll get through this together."

He stared at her, regret swimming in his teal eyes, "I don't want you to get hurt," he said softly, shy reaching up to stroke her cheek.

Her small hand reached up to rest over his larger hand. For a moment, she leaned into his hand and closed her eyes.
"I sometimes can't help getting hurt. I fight to protect those I love, Riku. Just like you do."
She opened her eyes and looked down at him.
There was no judgement.
There was no hate.
There was no fear.
There was just love.
Clarity.
Hope.
And a look in her eyes that said, 'I believe in you, Riku.'
