"I don't need to be fireproof. I'll be fine," I said, as I took a long puff of my cigarette and blew it out in the other direction.

"Just don't do it around me- I hate the smell," I muttered. I figured he'd run out soon enough, and if we couldn't leave the school how would he get more?

[Parallel_World]

"Can't help it, sorry. It's become a habit." I breathed in the smoke as it drifted back towards me. I took one final puff and held out my forearm and pressed the cigarette down on it, like I had done millions of times before.

"You know my nickname, so I deem it only fair for you to tell me yours," I anounced, finally sitting down beside him.

"How do you even know I have a nickname? I could just like Braylen, which I do."

I shrugged, "Then I'd just have to make one up. I might end up calling you Bray, or Len, or Smokey..." I looked up at his face, a smirk dancing around my lips.

I brought a finger to my chin and tapped it. "Hmm. I like Smokey, but I'm going to have to say No to all three of those horrible nicknames. You are the worst nickname maker-uper," I said, trying to disguise the fact that that sounded totally corny. "The nickname's Styx."

"I won't quit my day-job," I laughed. "But Styx like the river in the Greek's underworld? It kind of suits you,"

((I actually guard the river Styx. I'm a water nymph, just in case you wanted to know. ))

Her laughter was contagious. I laughed whole-heartedly. "Yeah, my friend, Kade told me that too. Before he died." All traces of laughter were gone from my voice. We were talking about serious now. Death.

My smile faded, the laughter fell away. I looked at my hands, "Tell me about him,"

I closed my eyes tight and wished for another cigarette to ease the pain. They were like medicine to me, nothing more. "He was my best friend. We did everything together. I thought that me leaving would have no consequences. I just thought I could leave home, and no one would miss me, but he did. And then he killed himself. Hung himself in his basement. I came back for his funeral, but memories lingered, and I still couldn't stay. Not with my father still there." I tried so hard to be strong, but a single tear rolled down my cheek and splattered off onto my jeans.

I leaned against him to comfort, for comfort, and swallowed the wave of pain pushed, unwanted, to the front of my mind. "I understand," I whispered.

I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her close to me, heaving dry sobs into her shoulder. "You could never understand the sort of pain I went through. All the pain I've gone through," I said, not really thinking through my words.

I relaxed into him, and whispered into his ear, "Yes, Styx, I know the pain you feel," Holding on to him, as he was racked with greif, I shed a few silent tears. Maybe, if I could just stay strong, Styx wouldn't feel my pain too.

"You don't have to stay strong. Not for my sake, anyway," I whispered against her neck. "I can already feel the suffering washing over you like a flood, and, for right now, I've pushed it to the back of my mind, and I can't even feel the numbing sensation you're giving off."

I sighed, and hid my face in his neck. A single tear found it's way from my eye, but no more. I trusted him. Why? Call it what you will, but more than anything I trusted my gut, and my gut said that there was no way this man could be my enemy."Thankyou, Styx," My muffled voice sounded.

"No," I said, pulling back from her. "Thank you." And I leaned forward and placed a single gentle kiss on her forehead. "Thanks for being here, and for listening."

I smiled, "Any time, but we probably need to get back before a teacher finds us,"

[Parallel_World]

I entwined my fingers with hers and pulled her up with me. "Probably," I said before running full-speed through the double doors that led into our hallway. Ace was giggling up a storm as I practically dragged her down the hallway.

[color=red]My feet pounded in rhythm with his, and as I gained my stride, we whisked along faster. In no time we had arrived at the dorms. I laughed breathily, "That was fun,"[/color]

"Yea, I thought you would like something like that," I said, a smiling taking over my face as I tried to catch my breath.

"See ya later then, Styx," I said and moved towards my dorm.

"See ya, Ace," I whispered, smiling as I opened the door to my room, peeling off my shirt before the door even swung fully open.

Ruby: "What did I miss?" I asked Braylen, then I looked down the corridor... "Braylen's in love..." I sang, but then I winked at the end, showing it was a joke...
