Kody: I look away. "just life in general." i blurt. then i decide to just tell him. might as well since he's asking.
"It's just...everyone seems to be happy with someone. but i'm too...afraid to." i say quietly. "Something happened last year that i'm afraid is just going to repeat itself. That's why. because my best friend is off with some guy and i thought i'd be ok with it, but i'm not."

Dylan: Realizing I've lost Rae I look around the dancing crowd. I frown and go and search for her on the beach.

Sol: Her best friend, she means Alaric. She must mean Irvin, the frown on my face grows. "Oh." I feel like Im about to cry. I close my eyes and breath. "If it makes you any happier I'm definitely not happy with my single status either."

Kody: I smile a small sad smile. "It doesn't. Knowing that you're not happy. I really don't know how that's supposed to make anyone happy," I roll my eyes, crossing my arms over my chest. "You should head back to the party. I was just going for a little walk and then i'd probably head home." i shrug. i'd let Alaric be happy. he of all people deserved it.

Sol: I let out a chuckle. "Yeah, I guess your right. Its actually quite silly to say." I dig my toes into the sand, its wet and feels like heaven. "but, I don't think I'll be going back. Not with them there." I whisper the last part, hoping she doesn't hear.

Kody: I cast a furtive glance over at him. I wonder who he's talking about. "Oh. well, would you like to come on the walk with me?" i ask quietly.

Kody: I nod solemnly, moving slowly through the shallow water so as to avoid splashing at all. it's my little silly game i have with the ocean. whoever splashes me first -- a big wave or my own clumsy self -- loses.
usually i win.
i glance out at the water, wondering what it would be like to just float beneath the waves peacefully. it sounds nice, but i'd rather not put my swimming abilities to the test.
not yet, anyway.

Kody: I stop thinking about drowning and all the pains along with it and look over at Sol. "Hmm? Oh, Irvin. I think. He keeps telling me he's not...but i have the feeling he's lying to me." I try to keep the hurt out of my voice. he hasn't lied to me ever. not until now.

Kody: I shrug. "I don't know. he's my best friend. i just want him to be happy. but i want me to be happy too, you know? and i'm always happy when i'm with him...except i have to wonder if it's just because we're friends."

Sol: "Well." I might as well just say it all. "I really like Alaric, but he's always been rude to me. When I asked him if he was gay he said no, and so I stopped flirting with him. But then he said he isn't gay or straight, and he either likes someone or doesn't. So that means he just doesn't like me. And now I find out he's dating Irvin." I sigh, this part was at least easy. "Irvin and I used to date, but he cheated on me."
