John: John stood there in the doorway for a moment. Staring at her in the bed.

He snapped up out of his gaze and peered at her, a small hint of confusion in his face. Then, he looked back into the room and took a few steps in.
John fixed his eyes back on her and gazed at her condition, the bed, the curtains the robe, everything.
"How're you feeling?" he finally said, more serious than he expected.

He sat there...quietly, pressing his index fingers together in his lap.

John: "Huh..."
Tears...Alex never felt much, what ever he did feel was faint and unimpressive...but tears? Happy, sad or in pain...he knew what that was but he never understood what it was. Pain was the most familiar...but he never cried.
"So...you cry when you feel?"
