She rode on silently for a bit, letting Champ stay just in front, and giving Randy some space. It was nice outside- despite the humidity.
Lara's mind wondered, as they rode, to the incident earliar. She still couldn't think of anything that would have made the horse spooke except another animal, and then they would probably have seen it. She sighed. Randy sure had acted sort of oddly when Lu had bucked, and later after she had fallen.
She dismissed the idea of him being afraid, at first- he was too good of a rider.
After a while, Lara reigned Champ in until the two horses were level.
"So... how far is the lake?"

"Not much farther. Around the bend and through the trees up there." he said. The sun was beginning to peek through the trunks of the trees if it weren't for the incident they might have been able to see the sunrise. But it was still early the lake would still be pretty.

As they turned through the bend and pushed through the trees Lara's eyes widened slightly.
"It's beautiful," she muttered.
Champ stepped lightly to the edge of the lake, and Lara gave him the length of the reigns so that he could drink. She slipped off as the big black horse caused ripples to spread across the surface of the lake.

Randy smiled. His favorite place was here in the morning some times he would camp out here just to see the sunrise. There was a rock for jumping off to the left and a rope swing close by. This was where he came in the hottest days of summer when he wasn't doing anything. He slipped off Lu, and led her to the waters edge. "It's even prettier when you see the ful sunrise." he lightly commented.

"I'll bet," She smiled, patting Champs dusty neck, and laying the reigns across the pommel of the saddle. "Maybe some other time we could get here in time to see it,"
She removed the horse's bit so he could drink easier, and sat down were she could lean against a relatively smooth rock.

"That would be nice." he said it almost hesitantly not knowing what her reaction would be. He took Lu's bridal out and set the reigns aside. He leaned up against one of the willows that allowed it's branches to hang over the water. He took of his cowboy hat and quickly set it o the saddle horn before returning to lean on the tree. He shook his head and his hair went back to it's normal swish thing. "Camping out here is best, even if I'm not allowed." He used to be allowed but then he came back with a bad snake bite and his mom and dad told him no. Now he snuck out at night and got back in the morning go see the sunrise do his chores then pop in for breakfast.

She nodded, glancing up at his face inquisitively. She turned back towards the lake. where her horse had waded in a few steps.
"It's quiet, sort of peacefull way out here. I can see why you would like it,"
She shifted her position to a more comfortable one and scanned the clearing. A couple of squirrels chattered on the other side.

"And it's better than any swimming pol. The water is a perfect temperature. Except in the winter, where it looks almost frozen but beautiful none the less." He ran his hand through his hair and it fell back to it's place. He like it better in the winter the silence was more pure and just listening go the only noises of winter was pure delight. The Eastern Blue Birds had the prettiest songs but he liked the cardinals the best against the white back ground of snow. Besides the birds the only other nose was the horses breathing the lake was still in the winter, and the fire at night all the mire inviting.

Lara could imagine the lake and trees shrouded in snow. "Does it ever freeze thick enough to skate?"
She wasn't terribly huge about camping- particularly in the winter when you had to have a fire. Lara didn't do very well with fire.

"No, it's to big and when it does freeze the ice is too thin. But the pond in front of the house freezes." He added.
A strange breeze blew through the air. It was only strange because the day was muggy and no breeze should have blown a day like this. "I think it's about time we head back." He suggested stepping out from the Sade of the tree, without his cowboy hat on his face wasn't shadowed. He smiled, or tried to the odd breeze made him a bit uneasy. Especially since they had an incident earlier.

Champ backed out of the pond and shook his head, side-stepping as Lara walked towards him. This morning had taught her a lesson- to be more observant of her horse's behavior, and he was acting funny again. She gave him the bit and mounted once more.

Randy almost dropped the bit as his hands were sweaty. He placed the bit in Lu's mouth who seemed to back away. He rubbed her neck and whispered softly to her and she calmed. He pulled himself up sailing on top of her back. "We need to pick up the pace on the way back. We both have chores back at the ranch." as he headed out he looked to the left then headed back to the right the way they came. This trail actually went farther on into the mountains and this stop at the lake was one of the few camping spots on the three day trip. He never went up to the mountains because that is where he supposed that the ghosts came from.

Lara nodded, suddenly guilty, "They'll probably be wondering where we've gotten to. She nudged Champ with her knee and he eased in to a fast trot.

"Nah." he said slipping his hat on his head. "Yah!" he yelled out as he dug his heal into Lu's side. And they cantatas off flying past the girl and her horse. He knew the trail so well he knew it wouldn't take him that long to get back to the ranch. Especially since he had a little shortcut that was always helped with jumping.

Lara gave Champ his head and the horse surged forward, lengthening his stride until they were hurdling forward at amazing speeds. It wasn't hard to tell the horse was enjoying himself as he struggled to shorten Lu's lead. Lara leaned forward, crouching in the stirups, her eyes half shut against the dust the two horses kicked up.

Randy guided Lu off the main trail as she easily jumped a fence he was home free now. "Yahoo!" he yelled out. He was truly at home on the horse. He held the reigns in his left hand as he pushed his hat tighter on his head. The breeze brushed over the prairie grass. He looked straight ahead the ranch coming up in the distance. He loved hearing the horse hooves as they pounded on the sift grass that masked the hard summer ground. A smile came to his lips as he gratefully met the breeze that his fast thoroughbred created.

Lara held on tight as Champ took the jump, her heart hammering. She didn't have a lot of experience jumping, but she relaxed again as they landed, and the black horse's stride legthened out again. He was trying his hardest to catch up, and the gap between them had shortened.
"No hands!" Lara shouted as she let go of the reigns for a second. She nearly lost her seat, and was laughing so hard she could hardly breathe.

Randy was not counting on her on following this was his shortcut. He still had one more shortcut to go on before they actually arrived he started veering off to the left then disappeared within the trees without being seen. He jumped a fallen tree then another fence and went around the backside of the house. He wouldn't be taking his shirt cuts again while Naava was here, those were what he called his special moments just him the horse and the breeze.

Suddenly, Lara looked up and Randy wasn't infront of her anymore. She pulled Champ back to a trot and listened. She could still hear him- he couldn't be that far ahead.
Giving Champ his head again, they thundered down the main trail.

Randy made it to the stables. He hopped off and began to cool Lu down in the practice ring. He walked her around when she bucked. He stud infront of her. "Woah girl. Calm." his voice was soothing. And Lu calmed down he was scared. What was going on today?

"Either she is really fast, or you have something up your sleeve you arn't sharing," Lara called as she half slid, half fell off her horse. she unclenched the saddle, and pulled it off before rubbing him down.

Randy laughed, as he un hooked Lu's saddle. "The latter would be correct." he smirked he was glad she hadn't followed him into the trees. He put Lu's things in the tack room and led her to her stall. He grabbed a brush and a few bits a feed gave her the feed and began to rub her down.
