Sierra: I could see her laughing as she splased us with water. It seemed like no time had passed since then. I felt my lips curl upwards in a bright smile and a silent laugh.

Sierra: I pointed to a tree. "See the broken branch halway up the tree? That's where I fell and broke my arm. Mother was so mad. She'dtold me not to climb in. But eight year olds never listen." I couldn't help but smie. "After she was sure I was okay, we laughed about it. 'Well,'she said, 'now you know not to fall without someone there to catch you,' she was always so loving no matter what we did she never raised her voice or a finger against us."

Sierra: I smiled and nodded. "Yeah, she was great. She always tolerated what me and Raziel did. And I alone cause a lot of problems. She always protected us from father."

Sierra: I smiled and nodded. "I guess when she died, we changed. Father went on a power trip, I became angry and Raziel lived on everything she taught us.

Sierra: "You'd think so. But I wasn't angry at him. I was angry with her. I felt like she'd abandoned us. I'd been so young when she died that I didn't understand. I wondered why she died. And the look on her face when she was killed-" I shut my mouth. I hadn't planned on mentioning that I'd seen her death. Nobody knew that.

Sierra: I nodded. "For years I thought 'She knew that would happen. Why did she go when she knew?' a-and sometimes I still ask that. And I feel angry at her for leaving us behind. I still needed her so much. I felt so alone. So I began to pretend. I began to fake that everything was alright."

Sierra: I nodded. "I knew that even back then. But I was afraid that if I let anyone else in, they'd leave me like she had. I couldn't handle that. I couldn't love someone and lose them like that again. So I didn't. No matter how bad I wanted to love someone. To be able to put all my heart to someone, I just couldn't. I refused.
